Air India starts Delhi-Sydney flight

Air India will only be able to fly those who have a resident permit or citizenship in Australia, as tourism is not open at the moment

Air India has restarted flights between Delhi and Sydney from November 15, 2021. The AI flights come even as Qantas announced flights between Sydney and Delhi in December 2021. Incidentally, Air India will only be able to fly those who have a resident permit or citizenship in Australia, and tourism is not open at the moment.

For the moment, however, Air India’s flights are under the Vande Bharat mission that is now in phase 15. Air India’s schedule mentions that the flights between Delhi and Sydney use a Boeing 787-8 aircraft and operate as per this schedule: Delhi to Sydney departs Delhi IGI Airport (DEL) at 1:15 pm and arrives in Sydney (SYD) the following day at 07:10 am local time three times a week while the Sydney to Delhi departs Sydney (SYD) at 10:15 pm and arrives in Delhi IGI Airport (DEL) the same day at 5:25 pm local time three times a week.

One will have to wait and see what decision is taken at the end of November by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to start international flights

There is no regular schedule for these flights in terms of the day of the week because they are relief flights. However, one can refer to this schedule to find out when the flights are operating.

Qantas has chalked out plans for flights from Sydney to Delhi and back. With no air bubble between India and Australia yet and the fact that India has decided not to open up commercial international flights, it could be a problem for Qantas in December.

One will have to wait and see what decision is taken at the end of November by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to start international flights.
