Renowned filmmaker Rahul Mittra is currently in the process of crafting a compelling docuseries that shines a spotlight on the lives of influential Indian Americans in the United States. In collaboration with Rahul Mittra Films and the esteemed media company American Bazaar, the series is set to feature profiles of trailblazers from the Indian diaspora. Anticipated to debut in the US in 2024 before reaching a global audience, the docuseries promises an in-depth exploration of the contributions and experiences of Indian Americans.

While Indian Americans have a rich history in the US, it wasn’t until the 1960s, with a shift in immigration policies, that a surge of Indian tech workers catalyzed a significant population increase. The subsequent decades witnessed the migration of other family members, culminating in the present-day status of Indian Americans as one of the most affluent and populous Asian-alone groups in the United States. The Census Bureau reports a remarkable growth of over 50 percent, reaching approximately 4.4 million in the span of a decade. With the 2024 US presidential election looming, the Indian diaspora is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping American politics.

The filming for this multi-part series commenced a month ago, with the premiere scheduled for 2024 in the US, followed by a global release.

The forum, having been revitalized under the previous Congress government, aims to address the challenges faced by NRIs from coastal Karnataka through data collection and tailored programs to assist their families

In a separate development, Karnataka NRI Forum Deputy Chairperson Arathi Krishna announced plans to formulate a dedicated policy and establish a separate department for the well-being and safety of non-resident Indians (NRIs) from Karnataka. This initiative comes in response to the recent quadruple murder at Nejaru, Udupi, causing heightened concern among NRIs from Karnataka.

Arathi Krishna expressed her commitment to advocating for justice for the victims’ family, including the establishment of a special court and the appointment of a special public prosecutor for the murder trial. She further shared her intention to discuss these pressing matters with the Chief Minister.

Additionally, Krishna highlighted the need to revive the non-functional NRI Forum, emphasizing the government’s responsibility to support families left behind when individuals work abroad. The forum, having been revitalized under the previous Congress government, aims to address the challenges faced by NRIs from coastal Karnataka through data collection and tailored programs to assist their families.
