Rising demand for Indian workers and higher wages make Abu Dhabi a top job destination
Abu Dhabi is rapidly becoming the UAE’s newest employment hotspot, with a 25% increase in demand for blue-collar Indian workers over the past year, according to a study by workforce platform Huntr. This growth is fueled by large-scale infrastructure projects, a booming manufacturing sector, and a thriving logistics industry, reportedeconomictimes.indiatimes.com.
Higher wages and industrial growth are driving a surge in job opportunities.
The study highlights that Abu Dhabi now offers significantly higher wages compared to other emirates. Workers in construction, manufacturing, and transport earn 15-30% more than elsewhere in the UAE, attracting a rising number of job seekers who previously favored Dubai.
A Growing Employment Landscape
The increased wages have sparked a 20-25% rise in demand for skilled tradespeople, including electricians, plumbers, and technicians, as Abu Dhabi accelerates its industrial and urban expansion.
Samuel Joy, founder of Huntr, noted, “For long, Dubai has been the focus of job seekers, but Abu Dhabi’s 25% rise in labour demand and higher wage offerings showcase its emergence as the UAE’s next major employment hub.”
-
Abu Dhabi’s economic growth is a major factor behind this hiring surge
-
The emirate’s GDP grew by 4.5% in 2024, with the construction sector expanding by 10% in the third quarter alone, contributing AED 26.7 billion to the local economy
-
Manufacturing output also climbed to AED 29.4 billion, while the logistics and transport sector is projected to grow by nearly 7% annually
Indian Workforce at the Center
Indian workers, who make up nearly 40% of the UAE’s population, are a key part of this trend. Estimates suggest that between 100,000 and 500,000 Indians are employed in Abu Dhabi’s construction sector alone.
“The emirate’s booming industrial landscape, coupled with its competitive salary structure, presents an attractive opportunity for skilled Indian talent seeking long-term career prospects in the region,” Joy added.
