CBI tracks down Mohammed Dilshad, who allegedly forged passports and lived abroad under fake identities since 1999
Standing in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court was a frail man with wrinkled features and a nervous expression. Identified as Mohammed Dilshad, a 52-year-old from Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor, he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at Delhi Airport on August 11, shortly after landing from abroad, reported indianexpress.com.
According to the CBI, the case dates back to October 1999, when a body was found in a Saudi warehouse water tank where Dilshad worked as a guard. Soon after, he allegedly fled to India, using multiple forged passports to remain undetected for years while travelling across Gulf nations. Saudi authorities named him the prime suspect based on witness testimony and requested his extradition via the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

Investigators revealed that Dilshad applied for a fresh passport in 2006, altering his birth date and father’s name, and later used the new identity to move between Oman, Saudi Arabia, and other Gulf states. Despite a CBI lookout notice in 2022, he remained untraceable until Saudi sources tipped off authorities in August this year.
In court, Dilshad’s lawyer, Md. Mustafa, argued that his client had been falsely implicated and that no scientific evidence linked him to the alleged murder. He claimed the suspicion arose solely from a friend’s statement that a fabric found in Dilshad’s room resembled that used to wrap the victim’s body.
The prosecution, however, stressed that Dilshad was a “habitual offender” who forged documents to conceal his past, and opposed his bail plea. The court has reserved arguments on bail for September 12.
