The collaboration heralds a new era of seamless travel for Air India’s passengers, offering a single intermodal ticket that extends beyond Frankfurt, incorporating convenient train connections to and from various cities and towns across Germany, including those lacking airports
Air India, a prominent global airline based in India, has forged a strategic intermodal interline agreement with WorldTicket, the exclusive distributor for Deutsche Bahn, Europe’s largest railway operator. This collaboration heralds a new era of seamless travel for Air India’s passengers, offering a single intermodal ticket that extends beyond Frankfurt, incorporating convenient train connections to and from various cities and towns across Germany, including those lacking airports.
Travellers can now seamlessly access over 5600 train stations across Germany through the Deutsche Bahn network, significantly enhancing connectivity options. Furthermore, Air India’s Frankfurt gateway facilitates train connections to and from key European cities such as Amsterdam, Brussels, and Zurich. This comprehensive intermodal integration is made possible through WorldTicket, an IATA travel partner, and its affiliated airline, FlexFlight, holding the designator code W2, enabling the creation of unified tickets for air and rail travel.
An added advantage of this partnership is that Air India guests travelling on Deutsche Bahn routes enjoy the same generous baggage allowance as offered on Air India flights. Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial & Transformation Officer at Air India, emphasized the strategic importance of such partnerships in expanding the airline’s global network.
As Air India continues to evolve its global connectivity, these strategic intermodal agreements play a pivotal role in meeting the diverse travel needs of its passengers
Aggarwal stated, “While we continue to expand our own route network globally, such partnerships help us provide an extended network to our guests and make journeys to their final destinations more convenient.”
Observing a significant volume of passenger traffic on its Frankfurt flights, Air India acknowledges the growing demand for seamless connections to and from various German cities and towns. The collaboration with WorldTicket and Deutsche Bahn effectively addresses this need, enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.
This isn’t the first intermodal partnership for Air India, as the airline recently established a similar collaboration to facilitate easy access to an extensive network of rail and bus operators in the UK, Italy, Austria, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Intermodal tickets with Air India are currently available for booking through global travel agents, with plans to extend this service to the airline’s sales channels in the near future. As Air India continues to evolve its global connectivity, these strategic intermodal agreements play a pivotal role in meeting the diverse travel needs of its passengers.
