This summer, Airbnb is making the most extensive set of improvements to Airbnb ever, starting with the introduction of Airbnb Rooms, an all-new take on the original Airbnb.

Over 50 new features and upgrades that address top feedback from guests and Hosts across the end-to-end Airbnb experience have been launched.

  ○         Airbnb Rooms feature an all-new way to search for private room stays with a dedicated Rooms Category offering a curated set of 1 million private rooms; learn more about one’s Host via the Host Passport, which includes details Hosts have shared about themselves, from what they do for work to fun facts; as well as ways to narrow one’s search using additional filters and expanded privacy features.

 ■        Private rooms are a popular way to travel and save.

Globally last year, more than 80 percent of private room stays were under $100 a night (approx under INR 8200 a night), with the average rate of a private room in India as INR 2572 per night.

Secondly, staying with a Host is a great way to meet someone new and experience the city like a local.

 ■        On Airbnb, Rooms remain one of the most popular types of stay for guests, it is the third most booked category since the launch of Airbnb Categories last May.

Airbnb’s internal data also revealed that nights stayed in private rooms listing in India grew by over 80 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year.

This increase can be attributed to the affordability and the unique stay experiences that a private room Host provides, making them an attractive option for solo travelers or duos or millennials.

A recent global survey found that over half of respondents saved money on their accommodation by staying in a listing and for almost nine out of ten price was important when deciding between booking an Airbnb listing and other accommodation.

 ○         Currently, on Airbnb, there are private rooms in more than 60,000 cities and towns around the world.

Globally, the top five trending destinations for stays in private rooms include:

■        Mapo-gu, Seoul, Korea

■        Melbourne, Australia

■        Warsaw, Poland

■        Sydney, Australia

■        Florence, Italy

  • Hosting on Airbnb serves as an economic lifeline for many, with the typical private room Host earning more than ever. Last year, private room Hosts in India earned over INR 1 Billion. Private rooms are a unique way to see a city by staying with a local, and provide guests with high quality stays.

Airbnb’s internal data shows that in Q1 2023, more than 75 percent of reviewed stays in a private room in India received five star ratings from guests.

Airbnb recently announced that, going forward, every Airbnb Room will feature a Host Passport, which will help guests get to know their Host before booking their stay.

Airbnb has also created a Rooms category with over 1 million listings across the globe, redesigned filters and added new privacy features to enhance the overall guest experience.

Over 50 additional upgrades – After spending months reading millions of customer service tickets, thousands of social media posts and speaking with hundreds of thousands of guests and Hosts, Airbnb created a blueprint of the entire Airbnb experience – every screen, every policy, and every interaction was mapped out.

This blueprint helped inform our 2023 Summer Release, and includes Redesigned wishlists, Total price display, and Transparent checkout instructions.
