Kapil Bhatt, ex-Genentech senior manager, claims US staff passed boring and urgent work to India team while they ‘chilled’
An Ahmedabad man, Kapil Bhatt, who spent a decade working in the United States, has sparked a heated online debate after alleging that American employees routinely treated their Indian counterparts as a “dumping ground” for undesirable tasks, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
Viral post highlights unfair workload distribution between US and India teams
In his post, Bhatt claimed that for his American colleagues, a typical workday revolved around assigning tasks to the India team, attending “pointless meetings,” and then logging off. “Boring work? — India team. Urgent work? — India team. Thankless work? — India team,” his post read, adding that Indian colleagues were left to handle all the dull, urgent, and thankless work while the US team enjoyed an easier routine.
The post quickly went viral, drawing millions of views and triggering strong reactions from netizens. Some agreed with Bhatt’s observations, sharing similar workplace experiences
One user said, “All IT folks in my society keep telling me the same thing. Apparently, even Indians working onsite do the same with the team in India & just review PR.” Another added, “Yes, the same thing happens in my company too. The problem is that people in India don’t complain. If US teams are paid more, they should work more.”
Mixed reactions from netizens on workplace culture
While many supported Bhatt’s criticism of the imbalance, others pushed back. One user commented, “Don’t mean to disrespect, but to be honest, they pay Indians for the same. No one is forcing anyone to work for them.” Another remarked, “What else did you think you were for?”
Bhatt, who was a senior data science manager at California-based biotechnology research firm Genentech for six years, has since returned to India and is currently living in Ahmedabad.
