Actress opens up about unusual and frightening fan attention following her breakout role in Vivah (2006)
Amrita Rao, who became a household name after the massive success of Vivah, revealed in a conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia the strange and sometimes frightening attention she received from fans worldwide. The actress recounted receiving numerous marriage proposals, some complete with family photos, cars, and even pets, reported moneycontrol.com.
Amrita shared, “Some fans would send family photos, stand next to their car and dog, and say ‘mujhse shaadi karlo’ (please marry me). Not just one or two… I got many! I used to laugh and wonder, ‘Kya log hain yeh!’ (What kind of people are they?).” She also revealed more alarming incidents: “Once, I received a letter written in blood, and that was very scary. There was a guy who would stand at the telephone booth outside my house, and my mom or dad would have to pick up the phone. It got a little much.”
“After Vivah, I used to get NRI proposals…some fans even sent letters written in blood,” Amrita said, describing the extreme measures fans took to express their admiration
Despite this intense fan attention, Amrita Rao married Anmol Sood on May 15, 2016, in a private ceremony in Mumbai after seven years of dating. The couple welcomed their son, Veer, on November 1, 2020.
After a hiatus from films, Amrita made a comeback with Jolly LLB 3, reprising her role as Sandhya, the wife of Arshad Warsi’s character from the original Jolly LLB (2013). The film also stars Akshay Kumar, Huma Qureshi, and Saurabh Shukla. She was last seen on screen in Thackeray (2019).
