In a landmark initiative to build deeper engagement with the global Telugu diaspora, the Andhra Pradesh government is rolling out a wide-reaching NRI-focused programme that includes a global enumeration drive, special services, grievance redressal mechanisms, and the formation of dedicated NRI courts, reported thehindu.com.

With an aim to reach 30 lakh NRIs, the initiative promises direct access to services, legal support, and real-time communication between the diaspora and the State.

Speaking to The Hindu on June 5, 2025, Minister for NRI Empowerment and Relations, Kondapalli Srinivas, shared that the government is conducting a structured survey through Village and Ward Secretariats to collect vital details of NRIs—such as their country of residence, email IDs, and contact numbers. Once completed, all NRIs will be contacted and provided with information on the services offered by the State and the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS).

To streamline services, NRI Wings have been set up at both State and District levels. While the State-level operations are overseen by the CID under a Superintendent of Police, district-level NRI cells function at the Collectorate, led by Tahsildars and Circle Inspectors.

These bodies will specifically address legal matters, property protection, and other NRI concerns.

“We are committed to ensuring our NRIs feel connected, protected, and heard—no matter where they are in the world,” said Minister Srinivas.

APNRTS, the nodal organisation for NRI affairs, is being strengthened under the leadership of an IAS officer as CEO and a prominent NRI as President. In addition, continental-level NRI coordinators are being appointed to maintain effective two-way communication between the diaspora and the State government.

Based on strong diaspora feedback, the government is now exploring the establishment of weekly NRI courts in every district, with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directing the department to evaluate its feasibility.

Other forward-looking services include WhatsApp Governance for quicker service delivery and a 24/7 toll-free global call centre, which is already operational and receiving calls from NRIs around the world.

To foster cultural bonding and celebrate diaspora identity, the State will also host Pravasi Telugu Divas annually in January, coinciding with the Pongal festival.

Minister Srinivas urged NRIs to approach the department for any issue, promising full support and intervention where needed. “This government is committed to safeguarding the rights and interests of every Telugu NRI,” he said.
