Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to South Africa for the 15th BRICS Summit, at the invitation of President Cyril Ramaphosa, has been met with enthusiasm from the Indian diaspora in Johannesburg, as reported by ndtv.com. Scheduled to take place from August 22 to 24 in Johannesburg, the BRICS Summit is seen as an opportunity to foster closer ties and bilateral cooperation between India and South Africa.

Srishti Sumani, CEO of Concept Digicom, emphasized the significance of PM Modi’s visit for the Indian community in South Africa. With a substantial Indian population and a growing Indian cultural influence, Sumani anticipates that PM Modi’s forward-looking speeches and perspectives will resonate well within the community, contributing to its growth and development. Sumani expressed excitement about the visit and even mentioned plans to organize a ‘Rakhi’ ceremony to honor PM Modi’s presence.

Sachin Ahuja, CEO of Alfeco Group, echoed the sentiments, highlighting the positive impact that PM Modi’s visit is expected to have on bilateral trade and various agreements between South Africa and India. He emphasized the role of the BRICS summit as a platform for developing nations to bolster their trade relationships, with the participating countries accounting for a significant portion of global trade. Ahuja expressed optimism that BRICS will provide a robust foundation for enhanced trade opportunities.

Harbinder Singh Sethi, a founding member and Director of the first Gurdwara Saheb in South Africa, shared his excitement about PM Modi’s visit and expressed hope that the relationship between India and South Africa would deepen as a result of the BRICS Summit. He also articulated a desire for PM Modi to encourage major Indian corporations to invest in Africa, generating substantial employment opportunities for the local population and contributing to a reduction in unemployment rates. Sethi emphasized that such collaborative efforts would lead to mutual growth and prosperity for both nations.
