Foxconn is set to produce 25-30 million iPhones in India this year, more than doubling last year’s output of 12 million.

This significant increase in production comes as Apple strengthens its manufacturing presence in India, with Foxconn leading the charge in diversifying the company’s production network.

The Taiwanese company has been running trial operations at its Bengaluru site for the past few months, indicating rapid expansion, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

Foxconn’s Bengaluru plant expected to meet Apple’s quality standards while ramping up production

Foxconn’s trial runs at the Bengaluru facility are part of the first phase of production, with the company testing whether it can meet Apple’s stringent quality requirements while producing at scale. Upon successful completion of these trials, the next phase will involve full production and distribution. The move is part of Apple’s broader strategy to reduce dependence on China and expand its operations in India, a growing hub for smartphone manufacturing.

Foxconn’s ramp-up in India is a key part of Apple’s efforts to diversify its production outside China

With this move, Foxconn is targeting a production goal of 25-30 million iPhones, representing a significant increase from the previous year. Industry analysts have noted that Foxconn’s Indian production could account for up to 25% of global production, up from 12-16% last year.

Bigger plans for India as Foxconn looks beyond iPhones

Beyond iPhones, Foxconn is expanding its operations across several sectors in India, including AirPods production in Hyderabad and plans to enter the electric vehicle (EV) and digital health sectors. The company has also made a £37.2 million investment in collaboration with HCL Group to set up a chip packaging and testing facility in India.

Foxconn’s expansion plans are supported by its 300-acre facility in Bengaluru, which will become its second-largest after China. The company’s strategic shift to diversify its manufacturing base is expected to strengthen its relationship with Apple and drive further growth in the Indian market.
