At least five Gujaratis enter US illegally every hour

While the northern route through Canada is often considered less perilous, U.S. authorities have strengthened security protocols along this border as well, aiming to curb illegal migration through all possible entry points

Over the past year, from October 2023 to September 2024, U.S. border security agents apprehended a staggering 2.9 million individuals attempting illegal entry into the United States, reportedenglish.gujaratsamachar.com.

Among these were approximately 90,000 Indian nationals, with US Customs and Border Protection (US-CBP) reporting that, on average, 10 Indians are caught daily while trying to cross through the borders of Mexico or Canada.

As efforts intensify, the dynamic of migration and entry strategies may continue to shift

Reports indicate that nearly half of these Indian immigrants hail from Gujarat. This trend reflects an evolving strategy among migrants, with more now attempting entry via Canada rather than the previously popular Mexico route. Experts attribute this shift to two primary factors: an increase in Mexican border security and prolonged detentions en route through Turkey and Dubai before reaching Mexico, which complicates and prolongs the journey.
