Basavaraj Bommai, 61, took oath as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka. Bommai was sworn-in by Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot in a brief ceremony at Raj Bhawan on Wednesday.
The Karnataka BJP Legislature Party elected Bommai as its new leader replacing BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday evening. He met former Chief Minister Yediyurappa before the swearing-in and offered prayers at a temple in Bengaluru.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Bommai. I a tweet PM Modi said, “Basavaraj Bommai brings with him rich legislative and administrative experience. I am confident he will build on the exceptional work done by our government in the state. Best wishes for a fruitful tenure,” he tweeted.
