In a recent development, the Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, and his Australian counterpart, Brendan O’Connor, engaged in discussions regarding the ongoing collaborations between India and Australia in the fields of education and skill development. The meeting, which took place in New Delhi, aimed to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two nations.
During the meeting, both ministers expressed their desire to expand and deepen the ties between India and Australia. Minister Pradhan commended Australia’s effective management of natural resources, particularly minerals, and the development of its workforce, reported nriaffairs.com.
He suggested exploring ways to replicate these processes in India and train the youth for emerging job opportunities. Key areas of interest for collaboration included agricultural technology, mining, water management, renewable energy, as well as emerging technologies like AI and robotics.
According to the Ministry of Education’s official press release, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India and Australia have witnessed a strengthening of their bilateral ties in recent years. Notable recent developments include the Mutual Recognition of Educational and Skill Qualifications agreement and Deakin University’s establishment in India, along with expanding cooperation in skill development
Pradhan said, “The two countries should explore ways to replicate such processes in India and train the youth for the emerging job roles. This is the best moment for India-Australia engagement which is already at a historic high”.
Minister Pradhan emphasised that this moment is opportune for India-Australia engagement, which is currently at a historic high. He recalled the earlier signing of an agreement on Mutual Recognition of Qualification between the two countries and called for its implementation to facilitate the two-way mobility of students and skilled individuals.
Looking ahead, Minister Pradhan invited Minister O’Connor to attend the 7th meeting of the Australia-India Education and Skills Council, scheduled to take place in Gandhinagar in September. This meeting is expected to provide further impetus to collaboration in education and skill development between India and Australia.
Minister O’Connor also highlighted the priority his country places on restoring student mobility, and he revealed ongoing efforts to streamline the visa process for this purpose.
