This will help the visually impaired to move around on their own
To enable the visually impaired to move around in railway stations, the Southern Railway has installed Braille navigation maps at Chennai Central Railway station and Egmore station. This will help the visually impaired to move around on their own, reported IANS.
These audio messages can guide the passengers to wherever they wish to go in the stations
The Braille maps were installed on July 4 at the entrance of the railway stations. Large in size — 3 ft X 3 ft, the maps show the locations of ticket counters, toilets for the differently-abled, concourse areas, water taps, waiting rooms, cloakrooms, foot overbridge, and entry and exit points of platforms.
Southern Railway said that QR codes have been provided on the Braille boards/signages and can be scanned with smartphones that will activate audio messages. These audio messages can guide the passengers to wherever they wish to go in the stations.
