British PM Rishi Sunak plays cricket with T20 World Cup-winning England team

Rishi Sunak was seen facing a few deliveries from Sam Curran and Chris Jordan at his official residence, 10 Downing Street.

London: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak played cricket when he met on Fridday, Marrch 24, the England team that won the T20 World Cup in November last year, areport in The Tribune, Chandigarh, says.

Rolling up the sleeves of his formal shirt, Sunak was seen facing a few deliveries from Sam Curran and Chris Jordan in a garden at his official residence, 10 Downing Street. The Indian-origin leader also tried his hand at bowling a few deliveries.

A video of Sunak playing cricket with the England team was posted on Twitter by Luca Boffa, who is senior videographer to the Prime Minister, according to his Twitter bio. “Prime Minister @RishiSunak playing cricket with the #T20 World Cup winning cricket team at 10 Downing Street,” he wrote in the caption.

Curran, who is a fast bowler, was seen bowling a spin delivery to the UK PM that he missed. Then Sunak edged a delivery off Jordan’s bowling to be caught in the slips to loud cheers all around.

“Cool to see! But why are they playing in their suits? Maybe as an American I am too dressed down?” commented a user.

“No @RishiSunak or “@Conservatives” fan, but this is precisely the kind of thing that endears the office of Prime Minister to the nation; now the government just needs to figure out what it means to be a nation in policy terms,” said another.

“If this was the Australian PM he would’ve played a sweep shot on every delivery,” wrote a third.

England’s limited-overs captain Jos Buttler also posted photos from the team’s meeting at 10 Downing Street on Twitter on March 23.

Holding up the T20 World Cup trophy, he posed alongside his teammates at the famous front porch of the residence. Along with Buttler, Curran and Jordan, the other players present were Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Phil Salt, Chris Woakes, Richard Gleeson and Tymal Mills.

England beat Pakistan by five wickets to claim their second ICC T20 World Cup last year. England are the first team to hold the ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup titles at the same time.
