With affordable fares and now reasonably priced refreshments, authorities aim to make the overall travel experience more accessible and passenger-friendly
India’s Civil Aviation Minister, Ram Mohan Naidu, on Friday e-inaugurated the Budget Udaan Yatri Café at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, marking another step towards affordable air travel in the country.
The café, located at Terminal 2 in the departures check-in area, offers a range of refreshments at pocket-friendly prices. Passengers can buy tea, coffee, bottled water, snacks and desserts for between ₹10 and ₹20. The move aims to ease the cost burden on travellers, particularly those flying on budget routes.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to make aviation accessible to more people under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme. UDAN was launched to improve regional connectivity and ensure that flying becomes an option for ordinary citizens, not just frequent or high-income travellers.

By introducing low-cost food and beverage options inside airport terminals, the ministry hopes to address long-standing concerns over high prices at airports

The café model is expected to support passengers from smaller towns and first-time flyers who benefit from UDAN routes
Mumbai International Airport is operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited through its subsidiary Mumbai International Airport Limited. The group also manages airports in Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram and Navi Mumbai.

Officials said the Budget Udaan Yatri Café reflects the government’s continued focus on inclusive growth in the aviation sector.
