Mehta police register case against NRI who allegedly raped woman after promising marriage
The Mehta police have registered a case against a Canada-based NRI for allegedly raping a woman under the false promise of marriage. The accused and the victim had lived together in Winnipeg, Canada, before returning to India, reported tribuneindia.com.
According to the victim’s complaint, she was in a relationship with Khushbir Singh, a resident of Suropadda village under Mehta police station. She stated that they lived together in Winnipeg before coming back to India.
Victim alleges betrayal as accused flees to Canada after incident
On January 21, the accused allegedly called her to Mehta and established physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage. However, two days later, he returned to Canada and refused to marry her.
Based on her complaint, a case has been registered against Khushbir Singh under Sections 64 and 351(2) of the BNS. Police authorities have confirmed that further investigation is underway.
