Based on the technical information provided for fresh bananas by India, Canada has approved its entry with immediate effect
Indian bananas and baby corn are now being exported to Canada. Canadian officials informed that export of fresh baby corn from India to Canada could begin from April 2022 after updating directive D-95-28: Plant Protection Import and Domestic Movement Requirements for Corn and the Automated Import Reference System (AIRS). Based on the technical information provided for fresh bananas by India, Canada has approved its entry with immediate effect.
India is one of the world’s leading producers of bananas with a share of around 25% of total output. Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh contribute more than 70% of the country’s banana production
“This decision of the government of Canada would immensely benefit the Indian farmers growing these crops and would also enhance India’s export earnings,” an official was quoted saying. India is the largest producer of bananas accounting for over 25 per cent of global production.
