Onkar Singh Taggar’s charitable hospital aims to provide corporate-level healthcare at affordable rates in Taggar village.
Onkar Singh Taggar, an NRI who left his native Taggar village in Punjab in 1972 to settle in Canada, has dedicated his success to his roots by building the Kartar Memorial Hospital. Located on the Hoshiarpur-Tanda road, the four-storey multispeciality hospital will be inaugurated on March 9. The hospital, built with the help of his family, carries the tagline “Corporate facilities at charitable rates — serve mankind, serve God.” , reported tribuneindia.com.
The hospital is a tribute to Onkar Singh’s father, Capt Kartar Singh, and aims to offer top-tier healthcare to the local community.
Onkar Singh, a successful hotelier and real estate magnate in Canada, explained that the hospital would offer facilities on par with corporate hospitals but at affordable rates for everyone.
It is built on 6 acres of land, jointly owned by Onkar Singh and his cousin, Paramjit Singh Taggar. The first phase of the 80-bed hospital will include services in general surgery, medicine, dental surgery, physiotherapy, gynecology, and pediatrics, with a team of 11 doctors, 30 nurses, and 25 support staff.
The hospital will expand its services, including ortho, cardiology, ophthalmology, and even oncology in the future.
In the second phase, the hospital will add orthopaedic services and a diagnostic centre. Cardiology and ophthalmology departments will be introduced the following year. Hospital MD Paramveer Jagat revealed that due to personal experiences with cancer-related deaths in the family, an oncology department is planned for the future to help address the growing need for cancer care in the region.
Onkar Singh initially envisioned a small healthcare facility for primary care, but after the success of his real estate ventures, he expanded the project to provide comprehensive healthcare services. He has also been a longstanding supporter of education and healthcare initiatives in Punjab for the past two decades.
