Cathay Pacific has further deepened its commitment to India by resuming direct flights between Hyderabad and Hong Kong, marking a significant milestone in its regional network expansion. The service officially recommenced on March 31, 2025, and operates three times a week—on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays—connecting Telangana’s capital to the bustling global hub of Hong Kong.

With Hyderabad back on its route map, Cathay Pacific now serves five Indian cities—Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad—bolstering its weekly flight count from India to 39, which is expected to increase to 43 by September 1, 2025. The expansion includes five weekly services from Hyderabad, double-daily flights from Delhi, ten weekly from Mumbai, and daily flights from both Bengaluru and Chennai.

Rakesh Raicar, Regional General Manager for South Asia, Middle East, and Africa at Cathay Pacific, expressed the strategic significance of this move: “Hyderabad’s emergence as a major economic and travel hub makes it a vital addition to our network. This expansion reflects our ongoing efforts to provide Indian travelers with greater options, premium service, and seamless global connectivity.”

  • By reestablishing its presence in Hyderabad, Cathay Pacific not only addresses the growing appetite for international travel from Southern India but also boosts economic linkages and supply chain efficiency between India and the Greater Bay Area, Japan, Korea, the Southwest Pacific, and North America

Echoing this sentiment, Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd., highlighted the broader implications: “The return of Cathay Pacific not only enhances travel access between Hyderabad and Hong Kong but also strengthens business, tourism, and cultural links. It also brings valuable belly cargo capacity, benefiting sectors reliant on time-sensitive shipments such as perishables, mail, and courier services.”

Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has witnessed impressive growth, registering a 19% increase in passenger traffic in 2024 compared to the previous year. The airport reached a record 25 million passengers in 2024, up from 21 million in 2023. On February 22, 2025, the airport recorded its highest single-day passenger traffic at 93,575, while February 26 saw a peak in air traffic movements, hitting 622 flights.

Cathay Pacific’s resumed Hyderabad route is operated by its Airbus A330-300 aircraft, featuring both Business and Economy class cabins. This move not only caters to rising outbound travel demand for business, education, and leisure but also strengthens cargo capacity.

With the backing of Cathay Cargo, the Hyderabad-Hong Kong service offers robust logistics solutions for industries dependent on efficient shipping. From electronics and pharmaceuticals to high-value and perishable goods, businesses in Hyderabad now have access to faster and more dependable cargo services.

Further enhancing its global footprint, the Cathay Group, including low-cost arm HK Express, plans to operate flights to over 100 destinations worldwide in 2025. Already, 13 new destinations have been announced this year, reinforcing Hong Kong’s stature as a pivotal international aviation hub.
