CDS General Anil Chauhan to boost India-Australia defense ties during official visit

Discussions to focus on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and Indo-Pacific security

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan will embark on an official visit to Australia from March 4-7 to advance military and strategic collaboration between the two nations. The visit highlights the growing defence partnership under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework, reported ddnews.gov.in.

During the visit, General Chauhan will hold high-level discussions with senior officials from Australia’s Department of Defence and the Australian Defence Force leadership.

Key meetings are scheduled with Australia’s Chief of Defence Force, General Admiral David Johnston, Secretary of Defence Greg Moriarty, and the Chiefs of the three services to explore avenues for closer military collaboration and joint operations.

General Chauhan will tour the Force Command Headquarters to understand Australia’s operational command structure and engage with the Australian Fleet Commander and Joint Operations Commander to strengthen interoperability between the armed forces.

Furthering India’s commitment to professional military education, General Chauhan will visit the Australian Defence College where he will address senior officers on strategic challenges in the Indo-Pacific region. He will also chair a roundtable discussion at the Lowy Institute focusing on regional security and cooperation.

This visit comes as India and Australia deepen their economic and diplomatic ties Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has emphasized India’s vital role in diversifying trade links and supporting Australia’s prosperity. Both countries are collaborating on a new economic roadmap to help Australian businesses access India’s rapidly expanding market which is projected to become the third-largest economy by 2030.

To strengthen cultural and business ties an additional USD 4 million will be allocated to expand the Maitri Grants program Australia’s free trade agreement with India is already delivering significant benefits with tariff savings expected to reach USD 2 billion by the end of the year boosting the economic relationship.
