China imposes restrictions to tackle pandemic outbreak

Those with travel history related to medium or high-risk regions or planning to return to Beijing will be prevented from buying tickets for air and railway services

A range of measures has been rolled out in China’s capital city, Beijing, to strengthen the management of people travelling from affected regions and provinces with high Covid-19 transmission rates.

It has imposed curbs on the buying of railway and air tickets. Those with travel history related to medium or high-risk regions or planning to return to Beijing will be prevented from buying tickets for air and railway services.

Those with a health code that is not green will not be allowed to board planes or trains going to Beijing.

If they choose to drive into the Chinese capital, they will also be made to leave. A green health code will be mandatory, and those in medium and high-risk regions will be adjusted to the yellow colour. About 150 cases were reported from Jiangsu, Henan, Yunnan, Hubei and Hunan provinces, according to the National Health Commission.

Meanwhile, a top health official said the US is ‘failing’ on Covid-19 as it has recorded its highest daily caseload in six months. Deaths are up 89 per cent over the past two weeks, and the total daily new cases have surged to 118,000.

Also, Tokyo, which hosted the Olympics, saw over 4,000 new cases in the past 24 hours.
