Warning follows crackdown on illegal crossings and recent arrests of Chinese nationals
The Chinese Embassy in Nepal has issued a renewed advisory urging its citizens to avoid travelling near the India-Nepal border after India intensified its crackdown on illegal crossings in recent weeks. The embassy reminded foreign nationals that a valid visa is mandatory to enter India and warned that illegal entry can result in two to eight years in jail or heavy fines, with no possibility of bail, reported indiatoday.in.
The embassy’s statement highlights the strict penalties for illegal entry and cautions Chinese nationals to avoid unauthorized travel near the border.

Earlier, four others were detained near Bihar’s Raxaul border for similar violations.
India and Nepal intensify joint security operations amid terror threats along the border.
Following intelligence reports of suspected Pakistan-backed terrorists in Nepal, India and Nepal conducted joint combing and patrolling operations along the international border last week. India remains highly vigilant since the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Chinese citizens must strictly adhere to visa requirements and border rules to avoid severe legal consequences.
The embassy emphasized that while Indian and Nepalese nationals can cross the border freely with identification, foreign nationals, including Chinese citizens, require proper visas to enter India via Nepal. Unintentional border crossings may still result in prosecution and harsh penalties.
