The PHE monitors all variants of concern in the country on a weekly basis
With the rising trend in cases of Delta variant of Covid-19 in UK, the authorities there have warned people that the Delta come under the category of variants of concern (VOC), and it has the capability to infect even those who had Covid-19 before.
UK is alarmed over the spread of Delta VOC (variant of concern), as the country’s health wing Public Health England (PHE) found the variant’s new case at 33,716 (July 23, 2021) the total being 286,765.
It amounts to about 99 per cent of coronavirus cases across the UK.
Cautioning people, the PHE cited an Indian example and said, “897 cases out of 68,688 infections of the Delta variant in India, recorded in an 11-week period from April to June, were possible reinfections.”
“Delta as compared to Alpha, the variant previously dominant in the UK, is prone to causing reinfection,” the PHE said.

The PHE monitors all variants of concern in the country on a weekly basis.
According to the country’s National Surveillance Analysis, those who are vaccinated with both doses of anti-Covid-19 shots are at less risk of getting infected.
“3,692 people have been hospitalised with the Delta variant, of whom 2,152 (58.3 per cent) were unvaccinated, and 843 (22.8 per cent) were fully vaccinated. Two doses of vaccine are far more effective against Covid-19 than a single dose.”
