The three-day Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention, set to commence in Bhubaneswar on January 8, will celebrate the achievements of the Indian diaspora while emphasizing deeper engagement with India. Organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in partnership with the Odisha government, this high-profile event aims to highlight India’s economic growth, policy reforms, and potential as a global investment destination, reported thehansindia.com.

Highlighting diaspora’s role in India’s progress

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate the convention on January 9, marking Mahatma Gandhi’s return to India in 1915. This year’s theme, ‘Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,’ will guide the discussions and exhibitions, including a special address by Christine Carla Kangaloo, President of Trinidad and Tobago, as the chief guest.

President Droupadi Murmu will deliver the valedictory address on January 10, conferring the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards 2025 to honor exemplary contributions from the Indian diaspora.

The event will also showcase India’s advancements in key sectors and its appeal as an investment hub to overseas Indian investors.

Exhibitions and thematic sessions to inspire connections

Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate four exhibitions at the event, including ‘Vishwaroop Ram — The Universal Legacy of Ramayana,’ which explores the epic through traditional and modern art. Other exhibitions will focus on the diaspora’s contributions to technology, rare migration stories, and the evolution of global Indian communities.

The convention will feature five thematic plenary sessions, such as ‘Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers: Stories of Migrant Skills,’ ‘Green Connections: Diaspora’s Contributions to Sustainable Development,’ and ‘Diaspora Divas: Celebrating Women’s Leadership and Influence — Nari Shakti.’ The Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will also be held on January 8, emphasizing the role of young leaders in a globalized world.
