Flight operations at Dubai International Airport were temporarily disrupted after a drone-related incident sparked a fire near airport facilities, forcing several aircraft to alter their routes and delaying scheduled arrivals.

Authorities confirmed that emergency services responded to a fire caused by a drone strike near fuel storage infrastructure in the vicinity of the airport early Monday morning.

The Dubai Media Office stated that safety teams acted quickly to contain the blaze and ensure the safety of passengers and airport personnel. Officials said no injuries were reported during the incident.

As a precautionary measure, airport authorities briefly suspended flight operations while emergency crews extinguished the fire and conducted safety checks across affected areas.

·Among the flights impacted was an Emirates aircraft travelling from Kochi in southern India to Dubai

·The plane had departed Kochi International Airport at around 4:30 am local time but was instructed to return after it was unable to receive landing clearance due to the temporary airport closure

Several other aircraft approaching Dubai were also forced to circle in nearby airspace or divert until operations resumed.

Dubai International Airport is one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs, handling tens of millions of passengers each year and serving as a major global transit point between Europe, Asia and Africa.

Authorities emphasised that the temporary suspension was implemented purely as a safety precaution while emergency teams addressed the situation.

Following the containment of the fire, airport officials confirmed that operations gradually resumed and airlines were coordinating with passengers affected by delays or disruptions.

The incident occurred amid heightened security concerns across the Gulf region as tensions rise in the broader Middle East following recent military escalations involving Iran, Israel and the United States.

Airports and aviation authorities across the region have been increasing surveillance and emergency preparedness in response to potential threats, including drone attacks and missile activity.

Dubai officials reassured residents and travellers that safety protocols remain robust and that authorities are closely monitoring developments to ensure the continued security of aviation infrastructure.
