Faridkot court issues warrant in 2022 escape case; NRI already under probe for circulating fake video of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann
Faridkot Police have secured an arrest warrant from a local court against Canada-based NRI Jagmandeep Singh, popularly known as Jagman Samra, a resident of Phaguwala village in Sangrur district. Samra, who is currently in Canada, recently made headlines for allegedly sharing a fake video of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on social media platforms, reported tribuneindia.com.
The case dates back to 2022 when Samra escaped from judicial custody in Faridkot after being arrested in a cheating case.
According to officials, Samra was initially arrested by Ferozepur Police in connection with a cheating case registered on November 28, 2020, at Talwandi Bhai Police Station. He was lodged at Faridkot Central Jail as an undertrial. While in custody, he was admitted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College Hospital in Faridkot for treatment on December 23, 2021.
However, on February 1, 2022, Samra allegedly escaped from the hospital by deceiving the jail staff assigned to guard him. Following the incident, the jail authorities lodged a complaint, leading to the registration of a new case against Samra and the negligent jail officials at Faridkot City Police Station.
After his escape, Samra reportedly fled to Canada and has been residing there since. His name resurfaced recently when he allegedly posted a manipulated video of CM Bhagwant Mann on social media, prompting the Punjab Police’s Cyber Crime Wing in Mohali to register a separate case.
