Suspects arrested in connection with the killing of an Indian man found in a New Jersey forest
Five Indian-origin men have been charged with the murder of Kuldeep Kumar, whose bullet-ridden body was discovered in the Greenwood Wildlife Management Area in New Jersey. The arrests, made across two states, have shed light on a case that has gripped the community, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
Discovery of the crime and arrests
Kuldeep Kumar’s body was found on December 14, nearly two months after his family in New York reported him missing on October 26. Officials revealed that the murder likely occurred around October 22, with the body in a state of advanced decomposition.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) played a crucial role in identifying the victim.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer and New Jersey Police Colonel Patrick Callahan confirmed the arrests of five suspects. Four men, Sourav Kumar (23), Guarav Singh (27), Nirmal Singh (30), and Gurdeep Singh (22), were arrested in Greenwood, Indiana. The fifth, Sandeep Kumar (34), was apprehended in Ozone Park, New York, on January 5.
Ongoing investigation and extradition
The motivation behind the murder remains unclear, and the prosecutor’s office has not disclosed the citizenship of the accused. The Indiana-based suspects were detained without incident and are currently in an Indiana jail awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
Under US laws, interstate extradition requires legal procedures during which the accused may contest their transfer to another state for trial.
