The evacuation was part of Operation Sindhu, a mission launched by the Indian government to rescue its citizens from conflict-hit Iran , reported gujaratsamachar.com.

The evacuees were flown aboard IndiGo flight 6E 9487, which departed from Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan, Armenia, on June 18 at 14:55 IST and landed in Delhi in the early hours of June 19. Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh personally welcomed the returning students at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

As tensions escalate in the Middle East, India launches Operation Sindhu, bringing home 110 citizens—mostly students—safely evacuated from Iran via Armenia

Operation Sindhu was initiated as a rapid response to the worsening Iran-Israel conflict. On June 17, 110 Indian nationals were moved out of northern Iran and crossed into Armenia under the supervision of the Indian Missions in Iran and Armenia. Coordination between the Indian Embassy in Tehran and local authorities ensured the smooth relocation of Indian citizens to safer areas before their final evacuation.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced the success of the operation on social media, highlighting India’s continued commitment to the welfare of its nationals abroad. “India accords highest priority to the safety and security of Indian nationals abroad,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.

The government extended its gratitude to both Iran and Armenia for their cooperation in facilitating the evacuation process. The MEA also advised Indian nationals still in Iran to remain in contact with the Embassy in Tehran via emergency helplines and the 24×7 Control Room in New Delhi for continued support.
