Nadeem Ahmed, the founder of ‘Indians in Sydney’, has received the NSW Government Community Service Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to both the Indian diaspora and the broader community. Since establishing the group in 2007, Ahmed has grown it into New South Wales’ largest Indian community platform, boasting over 135,000 members, according to goodmorningmacarthur.com.
Upon accepting the award, Ahmed emphasized that the recognition belonged to the entire community.
Ahmed’s vision from the start was to create a space where Indian migrants could support one another and foster a sense of belonging. Reflecting on the group’s growth, he said, “I never imagined it would grow into something so much bigger than myself.”
“This award is not just for me but for everyone involved with ‘Indians in Sydney’. We are a collective force, deeply committed to giving back to the community,” he remarked.
Under Ahmed’s guidance, the group has launched numerous impactful initiatives, including the Winter Drive and the Meal for Everyone Drive, aimed at supporting the underprivileged. Additionally, they have hosted cultural events, such as the ‘Indians in Sydney Gala’, which recently celebrated India’s Independence Day.
