UK dropout turned UAE-based e-commerce strategist shares how grit, timing, and learning from failure built him a million-dirham business
In a city known for ambition and innovation, Jason Kwao’s journey stands out for its raw determination and relatable beginnings. Starting off as a pizza delivery boy in the UK with nothing but a second-hand moped and a burning desire to break free from mediocrity, Jason is now the proud founder of a million-dirham business in Dubai. His secret? A mix of hustle, humility, and high-speed learning, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
Jason’s story began far from the glam of entrepreneurship. A university dropout in the UK, he took up pizza deliveries not just to make ends meet but to save and discipline himself. “People saw it as low-skill. I saw it as a stepping stone,” Jason told Gulf News. It was while scrolling Instagram after a shift that he had a life-changing thought: Why just be a buyer on Amazon when I could be the seller?
He launched a home-baking accessory line—starting with a sourdough breadbasket—at the peak of the COVID-19 lockdown, when baking was booming worldwide. Orders exploded, and his small venture transformed into a viral success, generating thousands monthly. But with success came setbacks. Overconfidence led to overstocking and inventory missteps that nearly crashed his business.
Jason Kwao went from delivering pizzas to building a thriving e-commerce brand and consultancy in Dubai — all before hitting his late twenties
Jason didn’t give up. He anchored himself with a powerful mantra shared by his wife: “Every setback brings an equal or greater comeback.” He pivoted again, cleverly repurposing a surgical knife into a bread-scoring tool that gained traction—until Amazon suspended it. Still, the experience taught him a critical lesson: control over the supply chain is everything.
He began sourcing directly from manufacturers in China, improving both margins and quality oversight. This shift not only stabilized his operations but helped scale up smarter and faster.
Eventually, Jason evolved from a seller to an Amazon brand consultant, advising other entrepreneurs. Some of his clients now bring in over £5 million in monthly revenue, and by early 2025, Jason’s own business reached a valuation of more than Dh1 million.
Now focused on mentorship and storytelling, Jason shares his journey to inspire new entrepreneurs in Dubai and beyond. His advice?
“Don’t get distracted by the lifestyle. You didn’t come to Dubai for the clubs—you came to build something real.”
