A gym trainer impersonates a RAW agent to deceive and sexually assault a Canada-based NRI woman, leading to a shocking series of events
A chilling case of deception and crime has emerged in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, where a gym trainer, posing as an agent of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), was accused of raping a Canada-based Non-Resident Indian (NRI) woman multiple times. The accused, identified as Sahil Sharma, is said to have befriended the victim on the dating application Tinder, leading to a sequence of horrifying incidents, reported english.gujaratsamachar.com.
The FIR, lodged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act, accused Sharma and an accomplice of drugging and sexually assaulting the victim. The sections invoked include 64 (rape), 123 (causing hurt using poison), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 74 (assault or use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty), along with section 67 of the IT Act for online threats.
The accused used the guise of a RAW agent and threats to lure the NRI woman into repeated exploitation
The ordeal began when the accused met the victim in March at a hotel in Agra. According to media reports, Sharma spiked her drink with intoxicants and assaulted her while she was unconscious. During this time, he falsely claimed to be a RAW agent, using this pretense to instill fear in her. The accused also threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the matter.
Even after the victim returned to Canada, Sharma continued to manipulate her by reinforcing his fabricated identity and inviting her back to India under the pretense of introducing her to his family. Upon her return, the victim was subjected to further sexual assaults, not only in Agra but also in Delhi.
The victim’s FIR highlights the calculated manner in which the accused carried out his crimes, leveraging intimidation and deceit to exploit her trust. The case has sparked outrage, shedding light on the vulnerabilities faced by women engaging in online interactions and the need for stricter measures against cyber-enabled crimes.
This case underscores the importance of addressing such heinous crimes with urgency and ensuring justice for the victim. It serves as a grim reminder of the lengths some individuals go to exploit others, using lies and threats as tools of manipulation.
