With renewed corporate movement and the wedding season, hotel occupancy and average daily rate (ADR) across hotels in Ahmedabad have gone up by almost 90 per cent in a year. According to hoteliers, the average daily rate has increased from a low of INR 2,900 per room per night in Ahmedabad in April-May last year to as high as INR 5,500 per room per night, according to a ToI report.

The numbers are at par with pre-Covid level. With more conferences taking place and indoor venues being booked for weddings during summers, the hotel sector is looking at a strong revival.

Hoteliers had suffered as two major corporate events – Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) and the Defence Expo 2022 – were deferred at the last minute, adversely affecting their earnings. Jay Sudhakaran, General Manager, Novotel Ahmedabad, was quoted saying that “Business conferences which were scheduled to be held earlier this year were deferred to summer due to the third wave of Covid-19. Moreover, trade shows and exhibitions are also taking place in a big way. Thanks to this, corporate activity in the city has significantly increased, giving business to hotels.”

Neelabh Chugh, General Manager, Renaissance Ahmedabad, said that while corporate travel was not at its full capacity, but it was certainly giving good business to hotels at this point.
