Oman has rolled out a golden residency scheme aimed at foreign investors, professionals, and retirees, offering up to 10 years of residency as part of its Vision 2040 reform agenda. Announced during the ‘Sustainable Business Environment’ forum in Salalah, the initiative seeks to draw foreign capital, accelerate private sector growth, create jobs, and encourage knowledge transfer in the Sultanate, reported gulfnews.com.

Under the programme, expatriates investing at least 200,000 Omani rials (about $520,000) qualify for decade-long renewable permits covering spouses, children, and first-degree relatives, without restrictions on age or number.

The Oman golden visa is available in two tiers – 10 years and 5 years – based on investment thresholds

The scheme has two main categories:

  • Tier One Visa (10 years): Requires investment of at least 500,000 Omani rials in a company, government bonds, or real estate worth the same value. Alternatively, applicants can establish a business employing at least 50 Omani nationals. The visa costs 551 Omani rials and is renewable.
  • Tier Two Visa (5 years): Requires investment of at least 250,000 Omani rials in a company or property. The permit costs 326 Omani rials and can be extended.

Expatriates already working in Oman who wish to retire there can also apply by showing proof of a fixed monthly income of at least 4,000 Omani rials.

Eligibility conditions include a minimum age of 21 years, valid health insurance, and compliance with Oman’s citizenship laws

While the golden visa grants long-term residency and family inclusion, beneficiaries cannot claim Omani nationality except under existing regulations.
