The Indian Air Force has entered into a deal to purchase 24 phased out Mirage 2000 aircraft of the French Air Force. A contract to this effect was signed between the governments of India and France on August 31, sources said.
The decision comes in the wake of French government’s move to replace its old fleet of Mirage aircraft with new Rafale fighter jets. A squadron of the French Mirage jets had been phased out some time ago, so a contract was signed between the two countries to acquire these phased-out planes
This is the second such agreement that the Indian Air Force has signed for the purchase of okayed airframes. It will help one of the most potent aircraft fleets to continue for longer period of time in service.
Mirage fighter jets were first acquired by the IAF in the 198os. Despite being over three decades old, they continue to serve the IAF well. None of these aircraft would be used for flying, sources said.
Their primary use would be for the purpose of spares and and servicing of the around 50 Mirage-2000s in the Indian fleet,” government sources said.

The very same aircraft had taken part in the Balakot airstrikes against terrorist camps in Pakistan and destroyed a camp there with their Spice-2000 bombs. It also played a decisive role in the 1999 Kargil war and turned the tide of battle in India’s favour.
