The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have established themselves as the primary launchpad for Indian-origin billionaires, according to the HSBC Hurun Global Indians List 2024.

The list ranks the 200 most valuable companies globally, led by Indian-origin leaders, and highlights the prominence of IITs in shaping global success, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, and IIT Bombay dominate as the top undergraduate institutions for global leaders of Indian origin.

* Of the 226 CEOs, Managing Directors, and Founders from the Hurun Global Indians List, a significant 62% attended Indian institutions for their undergraduate education, while 77% pursued postgraduate degrees in the USA

* IIT Madras leads with 14 alumni in the list, followed by IIT Delhi with 13 and IIT Bombay with 7

Additionally, Stanford University is a strong contender for postgraduate studies, producing 20 leaders, including Sundar Pichai of Alphabet.

Indian institutions have consistently proven to be influential in cultivating global business and tech leaders. Notable examples include Sridhar Ramaswamy of Snowflake (IIT Madras), Anirudh Devgan of Cadence Design (IIT Delhi), and Rajesh Subramaniam, the CEO of FedEx (IIT Bombay).

Despite the dominance of IITs, Stanford University, the University of California, and the University of Texas also feature prominently in shaping the careers of these leaders. The influence of institutions like the University of Mumbai, with alumni such as Ganesh Moorthy of Microchip Technology, reflects the continued global impact of Indian education on the tech and business sectors.
