“A large part of this was made possible by the massive efforts of the government during the second wave… There was an unprecedented situation, and in response, the people made the difficult task possible,” he said.

Mr Jaishankar said the government ran hundreds of oxygen trains to transport oxygen from production centres to big cities. “Other aircraft, including Air Force aircraft, were deployed to carry the oxygen cylinder tanks.”

We bought essential medicines for the treatment of Kovid. Many of them were procured from abroad. We also ensured that the domestic production of drugs is increased, the Indian External Affairs Minister said.

Commenting on vaccination, he called it a “big issue” yet “30, 00,000 people are being vaccinated every day and the pace will increase in the coming days.”

He said the country’s economy showed the sign of recovery at a rapid pace and hoped the economic impact of the second wave would be less than the previous year.
