As the Iran-Israel conflict intensifies, India has swiftly mobilized to safeguard its citizens, particularly students, in the region
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has set up a 24×7 control room in New Delhi and the Indian Embassy in Tehran has activated multiple emergency helplines.
The first batch of approximately 110 Indian students was evacuated from Urmia in northwestern Iran to Armenia on Monday evening and is expected to return to India shortly. The evacuation effort follows close coordination between Indian authorities and the Armenian government. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has been in touch with his Armenian counterpart to facilitate further transit.
In addition to evacuations, students are being temporarily relocated to safer areas within Iran. With nearly 10,000 Indians in Iran—around 6,000 of them students—the Indian government is working round the clock to ensure their safety.

The crisis erupted following a large-scale Israeli airstrike on Tehran and surrounding areas, which reportedly killed key Iranian officials and damaged nuclear infrastructure. Iran retaliated with a barrage of drones and missiles, escalating regional tensions and leading to widespread airspace closures across the Middle East.
