Gourangalal Das, Joint Secretary (East Asia), held a consultative meeting with Mr. Liu Jinsong, Director General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 26, 2025, in Beijing. The discussions focused on reviewing recent developments in India-China relations and implementing strategic steps agreed upon in previous high-level meetings.

Strengthening Bilateral Engagement

Both sides took a positive note of developments since the October 2024 meeting between the leaders of India and China. Over the past few months, Foreign Ministers have met twice, while the Special Representatives on the boundary issue held their 23rd meeting, reinforcing diplomatic engagement.

Key Agreements and Initiatives

During the discussions, officials reviewed actions taken to implement strategic directions from earlier meetings, including those agreed upon between the Foreign Secretary of India and the Chinese Vice Foreign Minister in January 2025.

They also agreed on:

  • Resumption of direct flights between the two nations.
  • Enhancing people-to-people exchanges, including media and think-tank interactions.
  • Celebrating the 75th anniversary of India-China diplomatic relations in 2025.
  • Finalizing modalities for the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra this year.

Path Toward Stability

Both countries acknowledged the importance of resuming dialogue mechanisms gradually to address key priorities and concerns. The meeting emphasized building a more stable and predictable relationship through continued diplomatic engagement.
