India and Oman commemorate 70 years of diplomatic ties with year-long celebrations

The 70th anniversary celebrations not only honor the achievements of the past but also pave the way for a future of strengthened collaboration, shared prosperity, and deeper diplomatic engagement between India and Oman

Marking a significant milestone in their enduring partnership, India and Oman have launched a year-long celebration to commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations.

The official commencement of these festivities took place on February 16, 2025, with the unveiling of a specially designed logo by India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, and Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi.

The commemorative logo serves as a powerful symbol of the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between the two nations. India and Oman have shared a vibrant relationship shaped by centuries of trade, commerce, and strong people-to-people connections.

  • The logo launch coincided with Dr. Jaishankar’s visit to Muscat for the 8th Indian Ocean Conference, where he delivered the keynote address

  • During his visit, he engaged in bilateral discussions with Sayyid Badr al Busaidi, focusing on expanding cooperation in key areas of mutual interest

This bond was formally institutionalized with the establishment of the first Indian Consulate in Muscat in February 1955, marking the beginning of official diplomatic engagements.

The consulate was later elevated to a Consulate General in 1960 and subsequently to an Embassy in 1971. Oman reciprocated by opening its Embassy in New Delhi in 1972 and later establishing a Consulate General in Mumbai in 1976, further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

To celebrate this historic milestone, a series of cultural, economic, and diplomatic events are planned throughout 2025 across both countries. These initiatives aim to highlight the strength of the India-Oman partnership and explore new avenues for collaboration.
