Both countries aim to build on their historical bonds, ensuring a partnership that not only uplifts both peoples but also contributes to the broader region’s stability
India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, met with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, reaffirming the enduring relationship between the two nations. Both leaders discussed enhancing bilateral ties, with a focus on key areas like digitalization, anti-corruption, and regional stability. Jha highlighted India’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s development efforts, specifically through initiatives that promote government digitalization, a significant step toward transparency and combating corruption, news agency ANI reported.
During the meeting, Jha emphasized the deep-rooted friendship between India and Sri Lanka, stressing the importance of a stable, continuous partnership. India’s support, he stated, aims at helping Sri Lanka emerge as a peaceful and prosperous nation in the region. President Dissanayake expressed gratitude for India’s consistent backing and welcomed cooperation, especially in the fields of governance and anti-corruption reforms.
The meetings between the leaders highlight a mutual desire to continue nurturing this relationship through practical cooperation and support for governance reforms
Jha also met with Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya earlier that day, offering India’s best wishes for her tenure. In their discussions, Jha reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to the Sri Lankan people, focusing on accelerating progress in the countries’ multifaceted relationship.
India’s proactive engagement with Sri Lanka aligns with its broader strategy of promoting peace, stability, and economic progress in its neighboring countries. Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently echoed this sentiment when he congratulated Sri Lanka’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath. Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s dedication to strengthening the longstanding civilizational and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
