Foreign secretaries meet in annual consultations to boost trade, defence, and technology collaboration under decade-long vision
In a key diplomatic development, Sir Oliver Robbins, Permanent Under-Secretary at the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), arrived in New Delhi to review the progress of the UK-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
During his visit, Sir Oliver held the annual Foreign Office Consultations with India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, reported ndtv.com.
Consultations reaffirm commitment to elevate UK-India partnership across trade, security, technology, and green energy.
The meeting marked a significant milestone in bilateral relations, with both sides acknowledging breakthroughs since the last consultations in London. A major highlight was the conclusion of the historic India-UK Free Trade Agreement and the Double Contribution Convention, which are set to unlock new economic opportunities.
Sir Oliver and Misri discussed advancing the shared vision of their respective prime ministers for an ambitious decade-long roadmap. The talks focused on economic growth, investment, defence, and green technologies.
A key moment in the consultations was the launch of the inaugural Strategic Exports and Technology Cooperation Dialogue, designed to build mutual understanding in high-tech sectors and defence, and to identify areas for enhanced collaboration.
UK calls India one of its most vital global partners, commits to deeper ties amid shared democratic values and security priorities.
Sir Oliver expressed enthusiasm about the growing partnership, stating, “In a more complex world, there is strong ambition from both governments to take this partnership to even greater heights.”
Following the meeting, India’s Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement noting that both sides reviewed cooperation across a wide range of areas—trade, defence, science, innovation, health, education, and climate. The Foreign Secretary also thanked the UK for its continued support in India’s fight against terrorism.
During his trip, Sir Oliver is scheduled to meet key Indian officials, including those focused on G20 and home affairs, to discuss broader global challenges and regional cooperation.
The UK-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership continues to gain momentum as both nations work to deepen ties and shape a collaborative future rooted in democratic values, security, and shared prosperity.
