India and the United States signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 17, 2025, in Washington DC, to boost cooperation in cybercrime investigations. The agreement focuses on leveraging cyber threat intelligence and digital forensics to address complex security challenges.

India-US partnership takes a step forward in combating cybercrime

The MoU was signed by Vinay Kwatra, Ambassador of India to the United States, and Kristie Canegallo, Acting United States Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS). The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will oversee the MoU’s implementation on India’s behalf.

Strengthening a comprehensive global partnership

  • This MoU marks a significant milestone in India-US relations, reinforcing their global strategic partnership

  • By enhancing the use of cyber threat intelligence and digital forensics, both nations aim to address the shared challenges of cybercrime and bolster security cooperation

On the US side, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), along with its agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Homeland Security Investigations Cyber Crimes Center (C3), will spearhead the efforts.

The agreement facilitates enhanced training and collaboration between the two countries in cybercrime investigations, addressing common security concerns such as terrorism, violent extremism, terror financing, organized crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, illegal migration, money laundering, and transportation security.
