India assists citizens leaving Iran amid rising regional tensions

India is assisting citizens in Iran to exit through neighboring countries amid regional tensions

— The Indian government has begun assisting its citizens in Iran to leave the country through neighboring land routes as tensions in the region raise concerns about the safety of expatriates.

Officials from India’s Ministry of External Affairs said Indian nationals are being advised to travel to Armenia and Azerbaijan, where they can board flights home or travel to safer destinations.

Approximately 9,000 Indian nationals live in Iran, including students, professionals and workers in sectors such as trade, shipping and construction

Indian diplomatic missions have issued advisories urging citizens to remain cautious and maintain contact with the embassy as the regional situation develops.

India has previously conducted large-scale evacuation operations during conflicts in the Middle East, including missions in Yemen and Lebanon.

Officials say contingency plans remain ready should conditions deteriorate further.

Analysts say the episode highlights the vulnerability of large expatriate populations during geopolitical crises.
