Diplomatic and military talks focus on stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and cross-border cooperation
The 33rd Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination (WMCC) on India-China Border Affairs was held in Beijing on March 25, 2025. Gourangalal Das, Joint Secretary (East Asia), led the Indian delegation, while the Chinese side was represented by Mr. Hong Liang, Director General of the Boundary & Oceanic Affairs Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Peace and Stability at the Forefront
The meeting took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere, with both sides comprehensively reviewing the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Given that peace and stability at the border are vital for bilateral relations, discussions focused on implementing decisions made at the 23rd Special Representatives (SR) meeting in December 2024.
Key Discussion Points
-
Strengthening diplomatic and military mechanisms for border management.
-
Exploring measures to maintain peace and tranquility along the LAC
-
Resumption of cross-border cooperation, including on trans-border rivers and the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra.
-
Preparations for the next Special Representatives (SR) meeting, set to be held in India later this year.
Diplomatic Outreach Continues
Following the WMCC meeting, Gourangalal Das also paid a courtesy call on Assistant Foreign Minister H.E. Mr. Hong Lei, reinforcing diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
