India partners with UNODA to train Asia-Pacific countries on strategic trade controls at NACIN Palasamudram
The Government of India, in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), is conducting the first-ever Capacity Building Programme on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1540 and Strategic Trade Controls for Asia-Pacific countries. The event is being held from February 25-27, 2025, at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN), Palasamudram.
Experts from 8 Asia-Pacific countries participate in this landmark initiative.
A total of 24 government experts from eight Asia-Pacific nations—Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Iraq, Lao PDR, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Thailand—are attending the programme.
The initiative aims to enhance understanding and implementation of the UNSC Resolution 1540, which focuses on preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and strengthening strategic trade controls.

Sharing Expertise on Strategic Trade Controls
The programme features speakers and experts from key Indian government bodies, including the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), the National
Authority Chemical Weapons Convention, the Department of Biotechnology, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, and the Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division of the Ministry of External Affairs.
International experts from the UNSC 1540 Committee and UNODA, along with representatives from Indian industry, will also share their best practices and implementation experiences.
This flagship initiative reflects India’s commitment to the international non-proliferation regime and its proactive role in strengthening global security frameworks.
