Talks build on success of 5th India-Oman Joint Military Exercise ‘Al Najah’; nations reaffirm commitment to defence partnership under 2026 plan
New Delhi: The Indian Army has further deepened its defence cooperation with the Royal Army of Oman during the 3rd Army-to-Army Staff Talks (AAST) held in New Delhi from October 22 to 23, reported theprint.in.
The discussions mark a renewed focus on bilateral military collaboration, following the successful conclusion of the 5th edition of the India-Oman Joint Military Exercise ‘Al Najah’ at Rabkoot Training Area in Oman last year.
In a post on X, the Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) said, “Indian Army Strengthens Defence Cooperation with the Royal Army of Oman. The 3rd Army-to-Army Staff Talks #AAST between the #IndianArmy and the #RoyalArmyofOman was held in New Delhi from 22–23 October 2025.”
The two-day meeting builds on the foundation laid during the 2024 ‘Al Najah’ exercise, which highlighted strong interoperability and joint operational readiness. The latest round of talks aimed to further institutionalise and expand cooperation under the Defence Cooperation Plan 2026.
Key military officials from both countries attended the meeting, reaffirming the long-standing strategic partnership and shared commitment to regional peace and stability
Dignitaries included Amit Narang, Indian Ambassador to Oman, and Captain Harish Srinivasan, Indian Defence Attaché to Oman. Representing Oman were Brigadier General Abdulkadhim Bin Ibrahim Al-Ajmi, Commander of the 11th Infantry Brigade, and Lieutenant Colonel Masood Mubarak Al-Ghafri, Commanding Officer of the Frontier Force, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
A joint live-fire demonstration showcased the operational synergy between the two armies, focusing on peacekeeping operations under a United Nations mandate. Around 60 soldiers participated in tactical exercises that included isolation and clearance of a mock village in desert terrain, house-to-house combat, and hostage rescue drills.
Snipers from both armies demonstrated precision marksmanship, while advanced Indian-made technologies — including drones for real-time surveillance and ballistic shields for protection — were used to enhance operational effectiveness.
The exercise concluded with a ceremonial flag event, an equipment display, and an exchange of mementos between the contingents, symbolising mutual respect and cooperation.
The success of the 3rd Army-to-Army Staff Talks and related exercises underscored the growing depth of India-Oman military relations. Both nations reiterated their resolve to strengthen defence collaboration, enhance training exchanges, and promote peace and stability in the region.
