During his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Fahad Yousef Saud Al Sabah, Indian Ambassador Adarsh Swaika, a 2002-batch IFS officer, emphasized India’s focus on ensuring the well-being of nearly one million Indian nationals living in Kuwait—the largest expatriate population in the country. The two sides discussed pressing community issues and pledged stronger cooperation on consular and labour matters.
Further talks with Aziz Al Dehani, Kuwait’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs, reinforced mutual commitment to resolving challenges faced by Indian workers and maintaining robust people-to-people ties.
Energy partnership remains vital
Energy remains the cornerstone of India-Kuwait relations. Kuwait is India’s sixth-largest crude oil supplier and fourth-largest source of LPG.

These engagements come in the wake of an all-party Indian delegation’s visit to Kuwait, following Operation Sindoor. Former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, part of the delegation, highlighted Kuwait’s firm stance against terrorism and its growing role in regional security through the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). He also recognized Kuwait’s increasing alignment with India on strategic and financial matters.
