India has welcomed the recently proposed Gaza peace plan and reiterated its long-standing and consistent position on the ongoing conflict, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday. Emphasising the urgent need to halt hostilities, New Delhi expressed support for international efforts aimed at easing the humanitarian crisis and restoring stability in the region.

According to the MEA, the peace plan—backed by key global stakeholders—calls for an immediate and sustained ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. It also seeks the release of hostages and detainees held amid the prolonged conflict, alongside ensuring unhindered humanitarian access to civilians affected by acute shortages of food, medicine and other essential supplies. The continued violence has severely impacted civilian life, placing immense pressure on already strained healthcare and relief systems.

  • The Ministry underlined that India views humanitarian considerations as central to any meaningful de-escalation process

  • New Delhi has consistently advocated the protection of civilians and the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian assistance, stressing that relief efforts must not be politicised or obstructed under any circumstances

Beyond the immediate ceasefire, the MEA noted that the peace plan places significant emphasis on long-term stability in Gaza. This includes measures for reconstruction, the restoration of governance structures, and the rebuilding of security mechanisms to prevent a relapse into violence. India believes that sustainable peace can only be achieved through a comprehensive approach that addresses both immediate humanitarian needs and the deeper political and security challenges in the region.

Reaffirming its diplomatic stance, India reiterated its support for dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path forward. The MEA said New Delhi continues to back renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at addressing the root causes of the conflict, including initiatives directed towards a negotiated political settlement.

India also reiterated its long-standing support for a two-state solution, envisioning Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace, stability and security. The Ministry stressed that such a framework remains essential for achieving lasting peace in West Asia and for ensuring dignity and prosperity for all communities involved.
